Worker involvement is fundamental to
TPMC's strategy for safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of all elements
of its work at PORTS. No one knows more about a job than the person who does it
or has more to lose because of bad planning or poorly implemented safety
precautions. Important initiatives must have worker buy-in if they are to be
successfully implemented and sustained. TPMC includes hourly, USW-represented
workers in work planning and program implementation staff groups.

“If
my experience has taught me anything, it is that important initiatives cannot
be implemented and sustained just from the top down. That is why TPMC is
so serious about Worker Involvement and (proposed) including hourly workers in
the formal work planning and critical program implementation process with the
same full-time status and responsibility as salaried staff professionals.”
